Coloring on Black

Hello everyone! Svitlana is here today sharing a simple holiday card using Poinsettia & Pine stamps set.

I wanted to replicate a look of a picture drawn with chalks on a fence.

Below I created a little photo tutorial of how this effect was made.Starting with a piece of black cardstock I stamped poinsettia and its leaves with white ink. On this point no masking is needed.

Next I covered petals and leaves with white ink using Fantastix tool (but the same can be done using brush)

followed by coloring petals and leaves using pencils. The white ink are pigment so they created some kind of color barrier allowing pen coloring to stand out on black background. I worked on different petals that were not close to each other, so I didn't lose the stamped design.

After coloring one cluster of petals and leaves I moved to another until finished the flower.

Next using white pencil I wrote the sentiment. For this design no lettering skills are needed, it should look like handwritten.

To give the background frosty look – smeared some white ink using a piece of paper towel

and then cut it up into strips.

With a COPIC marker (anything can be used here, a marker, ink, pencil – I just used what had handy) colored sides of the strips here and there to add gaps between “fence planks” in some spots.

Finally I inked all stripes using white ink to achieve more realistic plank look, added dot with white pencil (snowflakes) and adhered all strips to a card base.
