A cheat’s guide to double masking

It's Aimes here with a clean and simple card featuring some double masking. Actually, I'm not even sure if that's the official name or if there's even a name for this technique! I'm going to confess that if there is, then I may have just found a cheat's approach to it with this card featuring the Striped Florals stamp set. :)

I originally wanted to keep things very simple and stamp a circular design in the centre of the card front, leaving the space around it empty. This was done by die-cutting a circle from a piece paper, placing the aperture over the card front and stamping inside it. However, when I'd finished, the design just looked a little too bare. It needed something else! So I decided to continue the pattern building outside of focal point using the Arctic ink.

Now the beauty of using a very light tone of ink for the design outside of the focal point meant that I could save time (some might say, cheat!) and simply align the stamps over the green leafy design as the light shade of ink isn't visible over the darker shade of green. ;)

If you wanted to reverse this design, or not cheat, then I'd suggest creating the mask from acetate as then you can place it onto the stamped design to protect it while aligning the stamps with ease to continue stamping around it.

After all of that stamping, I simply added a gorgeous die-cut sentiment from the Majestic Bloom die set and wrapped a piece of green twine around the top of the card. Easy peasy!
