July Guest Designer: Heather Hoffman
Hello everyone and welcome to our July Guest Designer post!
We have an awesome treat for you today! We have the incredible Heather Hoffman as our July Guest Designer and she will be sharing some amazingly beautiful projects with you. But, first, let's get to know her!
Hello! My name is Heather Hoffman and I blog at Houses Built of Cards (if you are curious about the name of my blog, check out the whole story on the “about me” page on my blog). I am a wife to my hardworking husband, Michael, mother to two BEAUTIFUL daughters that I also homeschool, and I am blessed with lots of family and friends that I love and adore. I absolutely love playing with ink, paper, and stamps – and all the other things that go along with that! The crafty world is such a wonderful community of people and I am so incredibly happy to be able to do what I do every single day. I have been a fan of Altenew since their first release – their layered florals are always breathtaking, sentiments are beautifully done, and color coordination is easy with their beautiful inks! I am so excited to be the guest designer on the Altenew blog today!
Let’s start admiring Heather's marvelous projects!
I have a set of four cards that I have put together to share today – featuring the super cute Mini Blossom Die Cutting Machine, Rose Flurries 3D Die Set, Heartfelt Sentiments Stamp Set, Feeling Dotty Stencil, and Artist Markers Set A.
I absolutely adore the 3D layered floral dies – just like Altenew’s layered floral stamps, the realism and depth are breathtaking! I die cut all my layers from white cardstock for these cards, then used my Artist Markers to add color to each layer. Once I had die cut all the layers, I replaced them in the negatives of the die cuts to hold them in place and added color over the top with the markers. This just made a flatter surface and made it easier than coloring the tiny edges on their own. I then layered the flower and leaves together using a glue pen.
For a bit of texture on the card base, I used the Feeling Dotty Stencil (a brand new release this month!) and Limestone Crisp Dye Ink with a foam blender to create a soft detail in the center to rest my flowers and sentiments. I also added some flicks of Metallic Shimmer Ink Sprays to each card. Flowers and one leaf image were adhered using foam adhesive, and the other leaves were glued directly on the card base for dimension. I finished off with a sentiment for each one using Heartfelt Sentiments Stamp Set and stamped in Industrial Diamond Crisp Dye Ink (I liked the slightly softer effect from the gray instead of a black sentiment).
Here is a closer look at each card. For this first one, I used Coral Berry Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray:
This next one uses Forest Glades Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray:
For the third one, I used the blue markers to add color and went a shade lighter on each layer of the leaves. Mist was added with Ocean Waves Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray:
And finally, for this last card, I used Antique Gold Metallic Ink Spray – and Pure Graphite Crisp Dye Ink for the sentiment – a little deeper color for the sentiment:
I love the soft and whimsical feel of these florals – and it is so fun to customize the color of the layers using markers! Altenew’s Artist Markers work particularly well since they are already designed in color-coordinated sets!
