Video: Lydia’s Crafty Corner – Acrylic Block Watercolor Backgrounds

Hello everyone and happy Friday! It's Lydia here. Today I'll be sharing five cards that use a very simple watercolor technique using an acrylic block and watercolor brush markers.
To start, I took my large acrylic block. I placed it on my desk so that the etched grid lines were underneath and then added color using some of the Watercolor Brush Markers. You can use whatever colors you like and it's fun playing around with different color combinations. Once I had added color to the block, I then misted it with a little water to help the colors move. Then I flipped the block over and stamped this into place onto a panel of watercolor cardstock. I would recommend watercolor cardstock for this technique as it works a lot better with the watercolor medium. I then removed the block and left it to dry.
As you can see, I had so much fun with this technique that I did create a number of cards! Once I started I just couldn't stop. I used an array of colors – Sunkissed, Purple Wine and Turquoise for the first card, Lime, Turquoise and Midnight Violet for the second and third cards, Rubellite, Autumn Blaze, Warm Sunshine, Lime, Turquoise and Midnight Violet for the fourth, and Rouge, Citrus Burst and Mountain Mist for the last one. You can also play around by using the ink last on the block to create a lighter effect.
So once all my backgrounds were dry, I stamped images and sentiments onto them using Weekend Doodles and A Study in Watercolor Stamp Sets. I then had a little play with two of the panels adding darker colors to the flowers and leaves using the same color inks for one card and bleaching the images in another.
To finish off the cards, I added some enamel dots from our array of colors.
