Video: Lydia’s Crafty Corner- Ink Blending 3 Ways

Hi there everyone and happy Friday! Lydia here with you today. I will be sharing with you 3 cards each using a different tool to add an ink blended background.

I have used the same ink colors (Mountain Mist, Volcano Lake, Lagoon, and Galactic Stream) on each of the backgrounds to show the difference between the 3 different tools.

First Card

The first card uses a long bristled stencil brush – this gives a softer look. I believe you could get a darker, more intense look if you layered up the inks more, but if you're after a very soft look this may be the ink blending tool you are looking for.

Second Card

The second card uses a traditional ink blending tool. The colors on this look very bright and vibrant and the blending was pretty easy too.

Third Card

Finally, I used a soft bristled make-up brush. I was so happy with the blending using this tool! The colors are bright and vibrant and it took less time to get beautiful blending than the traditional blending tool.

Once I had all of the panels blended, I then added some splatters with clean water. As our inks are water-based the water slightly bleaches the ink, giving it an interesting effect. I also added some splatters using Iridescent and Pure White Ink Sprays.

For the focal images, I used the Potted Plants Stamp Set. I stamped the tops using a mix of Parrot, Olive, and Moss Inks (you can see how I got the beautiful blending on these in the video below) and the pots using Jet Black Ink. Once these were stamped up, I then die cut them using the coordinating dies. The sentiments come from the same stamp set and were stamped onto a strip of Jet Black Cardstock using Embossing Ink and then heat set using Pure White Embossing Powder.
