VIDEO: Lydia’s Crafty Corner – Salt on Watercolor

Hello there everyone! Lydia here. Today I'll be sharing an oldie but goodie technique – using salt on watercolor. I tried two different ways and finished the cards off using Pen Sketched Flowers Stamp Set and Mega Blessed Die.
To begin, I took two 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panels of watercolor cardstock. I wet the panels. Then, using Purple Wine, Turquoise and Desert Night from Tropical Fiesta Watercolor Brush Markers Set, I added color to the two panels. I then moved this color around with a wet brush. Once I was happy, I then added some salt to both panels. I wanted to see if there was a difference with the way I used the salt, so for the first one, I ground it, and for the second I didn't. Then I left the panels to dry.
As you can see there was a difference. The one with the ground salt left a much more subtle effect than the one with the chunks of salt. I have to say I like both ways but I feel that the chunks of salt leave such a stunning background effect.
As I didn't want to take too much attention from the background panels, I chose to finish off quite simply. I stamped images from Pen Sketched Flowers Stamp Set onto a piece of vellum using Embossing Ink and then heat set using Rose Gold Embossing Powder. I cut these with the coordinating dies. Then I cut Mega Blessed Die from Gold Mirror Cardstock. I added the flowers behind the sentiment before adhering this to the watercolor panel.
