Lydia’s Crafty Corner – Using Parts of Cover Dies
Hello there everyone! It's Lydia here and today I'll be sharing a technique to stretch the use of your cover dies.
I just love the clean look of this card and that it stretches the use of cover dies to give them a completely different look.
How to:
To start, I used Layered Blossom Cover Dies A & B, I cut A once from Jet Black Cardstock and B twice; once from Apple Cardstock and then again from Forest Glades Cardstock. I then took the largest heart from Halftone Hearts Nesting Die Set and cut this from white cardstock to act as a little base or frame for my design. I then layered this white heart die-cut behind the black die-cut cover piece to see what portion of the image I wanted to use. Once I was happy I added the same heart die-cut into place over it, removed the white heart die-cut and cut the black die-cut piece again, this time with the heart die-cut still in place.
Next, I added the black detailed heart die-cut over the red die-cut panel, then I removed the colored leaf pieces before adhering them together. I then snipped the leaves from the green die-cut panel and adhered these behind the black detailed heart die-cut. Once both the green and red pieces were adhered to the black heart die-cut, I adhered this into place onto the white heart die cut. Afterward, I flipped this over and trimmed away the over hanging pieces.
For the sentiment, I simply took a simple sentiment from Just Because Stamp Set and stamped this onto a strip of black cardstock using Embossing Ink and heat set using Pure White Embossing Powder. I adhered this sentiment strip into place on the heart piece using foam tape and snipped away the over hanging pieces for a clean look.
Since I loved this technique, I decided to have a play with different looks:
I used the same technique here using Layered Floral Cover Dies A & B, this time I kept everything white with a simple sentiment from Forever and Always Stamp Set.
This time I colored the background instead of the image itself. I think those buildings from Layered Cityscape Cover Dies A & B really pop against that galaxy sky background. To finish, I added a sentiment from Dearest Friend Stamp Set.
