Add Textures with Cube Cover Die

Do you love Cover Dies? They are fun and easy to create and they give you wonderful, instant results! Don't we all love anything “instant” these days?! Today, I am sharing an example of stretching the Cover Dies. You may know this fun technique already –  using a cover die to create a subtle textured background. It's a fun way to create textures without adding the bulk!

I am using one of Altenew's latest dies, the Cube Cover Die as an example.

Instead of using a piece of white cardstock, I chose one from the Our Family 12×12 Patterned Paper and ran it through the die cut machine. You can use a Tan Embossing Mat with the Cube Cover Die or use a thick Fun Foam for this purpose. This is the die cut combo I used from bottom to top: Base Plate, Cover Die (ridges facing up), paper, Tan Embossing Mat and Top Plate.

To create some “drama”, I took a bold move and TORE UP the bottom part of the watercolor pattern paper.

I must admit that I hesitated a bit at first, but I sure was glad that I did. The torn edges give the card design an extra oomph.

I added some Gold Glitter Tape underneath the torn edges.

The peony from Peony Spray Stamp Die Bundle was left nearly uncolored. I only took the shimmer pen and lightly colored the petals. The textured watercolor background provides such a lovely backdrop for the peony! The sentiment is simply perfect that I repeated it twice on top and bottom!
